Join us for a meaningful day outdoors as we come together to build a dead hedge at Roots Allotment — a simple, traditional structure made from natural materials that creates vital habitat for wildlife while helping define and protect growing spaces.
This hands-on volunteer session is a chance to learn practical skills, spend time in nature, and meet others who care about community and the environment. Whether you’re completely new to allotments or already enjoy gardening, you’re very welcome!
We’ll guide you through the process of constructing a dead hedge using gathered branches and organic materials, explaining how it supports biodiversity, improves soil health, and creates shelter for birds, insects, and small mammals.
The atmosphere is relaxed and social. Work at your own pace, chat with others, and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to a shared space.
